Ookpik Program
Overview
A weekly girl only activity night with workshops on; sexual health, relationships, menstrual cycle, family planning, drugs & alcohol awareness, nutrition, career planning and mental & physical health. This program is run by an all-female staff for up to 25 Inuit girls
Outcomes
Empowered Health Literacy: Provides a private, all-female space where girls gain the confidence to manage their reproductive, physical, and mental health through culturally safe workshops.
Leadership and Self-Confidence: Dismantles gender stereotypes by using sports and career planning to help girls see themselves as the next generation of strong Inuit women leaders.
Resilience Against Social Pressures: Strengthens emotional resilience and healthy boundary-setting within a supportive sisterhood to help girls navigate specific social and developmental challenges.
Safe Community Connection: Establishes a secure, female-led sanctuary that fosters a deep sense of belonging and protection among peers.
Informed Future Planning: Equips young women with the tools for family and career success by providing mentorship from qualified female staff in a comfortable, girl-centered environment.
