Event Recap: Battle in the Rockies Training Camp
For the Cambridge Bay Wrestling Club, returning to the Battle in the Rockies Training Camp every summer is a tradition we’re committed to keeping, year after year.
This trip represents the long-term commitment we make to our youth. We want them to know that traveling outside their hometown isn't a rare opportunity reserved for a lucky few who joined at the right time. It’s an adventure everyone can dream about, reach for, and count on. We are here to give our athletes the space to build confidence, create lifelong memories, and discover what they are truly capable of on and off the mat.
Team Bonding in Edmonton
Before stepping onto the mat, our team took time to unwind and connect. We cooled off with a swim at Terwillegar Recreation Centre and explored West Edmonton Mall, Canada's largest mall. Establishing trust and camaraderie early set an energized, supportive foundation for the demanding week ahead.
A Week of Grit and Growth
From there, it was straight into an action-packed itinerary designed to push limits and foster resilience:
Day 1 (Sylvan Lake Beach Wrestling): The team kicked off camp with a dynamic beach wrestling tournament outdoors.
Day 2 (Skill & Leadership Development): Athletes tackled three high-intensity practices, while our junior leaders took a big step forward by completing a coaching development course.
Day 3 (Pentathlon & Resilience): Two full practices paired with a grueling 5-event team-building pentathlon focused on communication and collective problem-solving.
Day 4 (Elite Training): World-class instruction featuring three practices led by World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Gia Sissari.
Day 5 (Active Recovery): A well-earned break! Wrestlers recharged through outdoor adventures, choosing between white-water rafting, hiking, weightlifting, or swimming.
Day 6 (The Toughest Wrestler Challenge): The ultimate test of endurance. Teams of four completed track duck walks, walking lunges, end-zone bear crawls, burpee broad jumps, and a $4 \times 400\text{m}$ relay.
Celebrating Outstanding Leadership
Huge congratulations to Graysen and Kaylie for earning the prestigious Rock Elite Awards as the camp's Most Outstanding Wrestlers! Your hard work, grit, and leadership set the bar for our entire club.
Gratitude to Our Coaches
To our incredible coaches: thank you! You facilitate experiences that truly change lives. Without your time, energy, and unwavering commitment to handling logistics and supporting our youth, opportunities like this simply wouldn't be possible. Thank you for making these memories a reality.
We’ll be back next year, ready to take the trip. If you're willing to commit to yourself, show up, and grow with us, we will be right here to back you up every step of the way... the only question is, are you ready to come along?
