Ten Years On and Beyond the Mat: A Landmark Celebration for Cambridge Bay Wrestling Club

What a night. Looking back at the room in the Port Hope Lion’s Club this past weekend, it’s hard to put into words the mix of pride and pure gratitude we’re feeling.

When we first started talking about a 10th Anniversary Gala, we knew we wanted it to be a celebration of how far we’ve come in supporting Inuit youth. From those first practices to seeing our athletes represent Nunavut on the national stage, every step has been about providing new paths for our kids. Seeing everyone actually gathered there, from our long-time sponsors to the families who have been with us since day one, was something else entirely.

The night wouldn’t have been possible without our friends in Garage Dog, they are absolute legends who truly understand the value of our work and want to support organizations like ours that need help. They didn't just play a set, they poured their hearts into an incredible performance that had everyone on their feet and feeling the love for our club!

Between the laughs, the stories shared from a decade up in the Arctic and across Canada, and the incredible generosity during the evening, it was a resounding success.

To everyone who purchased raffle tickets, bid on our silent auction, picked up some club merchandise, or simply joined us to cheer: Thank you. Because of your contributions, we didn't just celebrate the past; we secured the future. Every dollar raised has a direct, tangible impact on our upcoming 2026-27 season.

Your support means we can send a select group of athletes to the Rocky Mountain Training Camp to learn lessons that go far beyond the mat. This trip exemplifies exactly what we want the club to do: it challenges our youth to build trust in themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and forge deeper relationships with their teammates and coaches.

Most importantly, these trips provide the formative experiences and new perspectives they need as they prepare for life. Our goal is to empower them with the confidence to navigate their own future. Where they go is their decision, but helping them get there is our mission.

We’re heading into this new season with a full heart and a clear mission. We’ve seen what ten years of dedication can do, and thanks to your support at the gala, the next decade is looking brighter than ever.
